Obamacare: ‘Premiums To Rise’

Despite President Obama’s Promise That ‘This Law Will Lower Premiums,’ Americans ‘Are Paying More And Getting So Much Less’

AGAIN: ‘Expect Health-Insurance Premiums To Rise’

“You could continue to see prices increasing this year for your health-care coverage. ... One recent analysis finds that 80% of firms offering employee coverage have raised deductibles or other cost-sharing provisions, or are considering doing so… Thus, employee out-of-pocket costs could rise.” (“Expect Health-Insurance Premiums To Rise,” Wall Street Journal, 3/22/14)

  • Average premiums for individual health plans ‘up 39%,’ family plans ‘up 56%’ “EHealth, parent company of insurance retailer ehealthinsurance.com, is publishing premiums people pay on its site. Last month it reported that the average premium for an individual health plan that meets ACA requirements was $274 a month, up 39% from last year, before the ACA provisions took effect. Family plans averaged $663 a month, up 56% from a year earlier.” (“Expect Health-Insurance Premiums To Rise,” Wall Street Journal, 3/22/14)

‘We Are Paying More And Getting So Much Less’

UT WOMAN: “Debbie from Salt Lake City ... wrote to me, ‘We cannot live with this. I am very unhappy and frustrated with this new Obamacare. We not only cannot have the same insurance we had in the past, but the plan we must choose is overwhelmingly expensive for us. We are paying more and getting so much less.’ These are real stories from real Utahns, and they’re heartbreaking.” (Sen. Hatch, Op-Ed, “ACA Disastrous — We Need Real Change,” Deseret News, 3/23/14)

KY MAN: ‘Our current premium... is just over $400 per month... under Obamacare our premium will now go up to over $1,100 per month’ “I myself, have an individual policy for myself, my wife and college age son. Our current premium, until December 2014, is just over $400 per month. We now have found through Kynect.com that under Obamacare our premium will now go up to over $1,100 per month.  ... . Americans were told that we could, if we choose, keep our existing policy. This was an absolute lie from Obama!  Not only was it a lie - it is a lie that will cost me an additional $700 per month!” (Sen. McConnell, Constituent Mail)

IN WOMAN: “[Ginny] Mason is one of the many Americans with serious illnesses… shocked at how much their prescriptions are costing as insurers are sorting drug prices into a complex tier system and in some cases charging co-insurance rates as high as 50 percent. That can leave patients on the hook for thousands.” (“Obamacare Plans Bring Hefty Fees For Certain Drugs,” AP, 3/22/14)
