Senate Democrats Choose Politics Over National Security

“Senate Democrats would rather play election-year politics than support our men and women in uniform, a dangerous gamble at a time when ISIS is actively pursuing a strategy to harm Americans at home and abroad.”

WASHINGTON — Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked the Department of Defense appropriations bill for the second consecutive week and the fifth time this Congress:

“Even as threats to the homeland continue to grow, and even after Obama announced more troops to Iraq and halted the troop drawdown in Afghanistan, Democrats have again blocked the funding needed to fund our troops and keep our nation safe. Senate Democrats would rather play election-year politics than support our men and women in uniform, a dangerous gamble at a time when ISIS is actively pursuing a strategy to harm Americans at home and abroad. It’s past time for Senate Democrats to recognize the real threat that terrorism poses and join us to deliver critical funding for our military.”
