WASHINGTON — Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, today issued the following statement after the Senate confirmed Mike Pompeo to serve as director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
“Our nation is facing ever-increasing threats to our safety, and Mike Pompeo has the experience and judgment necessary to help address those threats,” said Thune. “Protecting the homeland and keeping Americans safe are two of the most important responsibilities of the federal government, and Mike Pompeo is ready for the challenges ahead. Moving forward, I hope that Senate Democrats will abandon their campaign to slow down the confirmation process and allow the Senate to vote on the rest of President Trump’s Cabinet, just as Republicans did for former President Obama’s nominees.”
