Alexander Calls on Congress to Find More American Energy Now, Use Less to Lower Gas Prices

July 14th, 2008 - WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today made the following statement on the announcement that the president is lifting the administrative ban on offshore exploration:

“The key to bringing down record-high gas prices is to find more American energy, as well as use less. After today’s announcement by the president, the only hurdle left to beginning offshore exploration is congressional action, and it’s time for the Democratic leadership to listen to the millions of Americans who are demanding we begin today. We must pass balanced legislation, like the Gas Price Reduction Act, that will both find more American energy through offshore exploration and oil shale and use less by supporting new technologies like plug-in electric cars.”
