Presidential Priorities

Senator Joe Manchin: “This president has to take the side of the American people and not think about, ‘Well, this looks better for a campaign ad in 2012 …’”

President’s priorities are clearly on campaigning:

  • Among the jobs President Obama hopes to save … is his own.” (Susan Page, “Analysis: Among the jobs Obama hopes to save is his own,” USA Today, 09/09/11)

While the economy just keeps getting worse:

  • More U.S. homes are entering the foreclosure process, but they're taking ever longer to get sold or repossessed by lenders. The number of U.S. homes that received a first-time default notice during the July to September quarter increased 14 percent compared to the second quarter, RealtyTrac Inc. said Thursday.” (Alex Veiga, “US foreclosure activity edged higher in 3Q,” Associated Press, 10/13/11)
  • “The number of people applying for unemployment benefits was mostly unchanged last week. A slight dip in applications suggests the job market isn't getting much better.” (Christopher Rugaber, “Applications for unemployment aid barely changed,” Associated Press, 10/13/11)
