Thune Statement on Redirecting Funds from Planned Parenthood

“The recent videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the harvesting of unborn babies’ organs have disturbed Americans of every political persuasion.”

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement after legislation to redirect federal funding from Planned Parenthood (S. 1881) failed to move forward in the Senate:

“The recent videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the harvesting of unborn babies’ organs have disturbed Americans of every political persuasion. Today, the Senate had an opportunity to ensure federal funding for women’s health services is maintained at current levels, while directing those federal dollars to organizations like community health centers that do not see the tragic and difficult choices of women as a business opportunity. I’m disappointed that the Senate failed to redirect federal tax dollars from an organization engaged in these inhuman practices.”

Community health center sites vastly outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities nationwide.
