Senator Gregg Reacts to Reports that Democrats Plan to Circumvent

“I fully agree that the U.S. health care system needs a significant overhaul, but using the budget reconciliation process is not a constructive way to accomplish it. Instead of being a bipartisan effort as the American people expect and deserve, health care reform by reconciliation would completely shut out the minority from having any input whatsoever. A reform of our health care system – a massive legislative undertaking that will impact every American – should be done through the normal debate and amendment process. To circumvent that process in favor of ramming through a partisan plan that needs only a simple majority to pass is a far cry from the bipartisanship that has been promised.”
