Thune Statement on Speaker Boehner’s Resignation

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement after Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner announced he will retire from Congress at the end of October:

“Speaker Boehner is a gentleman and a statesman. During his tenure as speaker of the House of Representatives, John has done a difficult job well, always treating his colleagues with respect. He worked his way from a job in his family’s business to serving his country in the House of Representatives for 25 years, a living example of the American dream that he has sought to protect and promote during his time in Congress. I will miss working with John in Washington, D.C., but wish the best for him and his family as they look forward to more time together.”
