Thune Statement on U.S. Abstaining from U.N. Vote on Israeli Settlements

“Abstaining from today's United Nations vote is one more slap in the face from the Obama administration to our ally, Israel.”

WASHINGTON — Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement after the United States abstained from a United Nations Security Council vote on Israeli settlements, breaking a long tradition of standing with Israel before the international body.

"Abstaining from today's United Nations vote is one more slap in the face from the Obama administration to our ally, Israel. Unfortunately, this unprecedented move while on his way out the door perfectly summarizes President Obama's foreign policy that has led from behind, stood silent as red lines were crossed, and alienated our allies around the globe."
