Senate Republicans are demanding a full Senate trial on the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Secretary Mayorkas is actively supporting open-border policies that have fueled a record-breaking crisis of 9.2 million illegal crossings. He is threatening America’s economic and border security, prohibiting states from providing their citizens with safety, and betraying the trust of the American people.
As Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) said, “Joe Biden and his Secretary of Homeland Security Mayorkas have surrendered the southern border to the criminal cartels and to drug dealers. This is a crime against America. The American people deserve accountability.”
During a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Senate Republicans doubled down on their demands to hold a full trial on the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas. Here is what they said:
Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS): “Make no mistake about it – a vote to block the impeachment trial of Secretary Mayorkas, is a vote to keep our borders open.”
Senator John Kennedy (R-LA): “This is right up there with getting rid of the filibuster. Were either going to have a United States Senate as set up by our founders or we’re not.”
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN): “Secretary Mayorkas has neglected his duty. Think about it, we have a Homeland Security Secretary who does not believe in securing the homeland.”
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT): “This is the most violent act undertaken against the United States Senate, violent against the institution of the Senate, and its time-honored traditions, since November 2013 when Harry Reid nuked – deployed – the nuclear options.”
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX): “Alejandro Mayorkas is not only guilty of aiding and abetting the invasion that has happened for the last three and a half years and every dead body that has resulted, but he’s guilty tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day he intends to continue to facilitate and accelerate this criminal invasion.”
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI): “The Biden administration, Democrats are incentivizing the invasion of this country… Democrats, President Biden want an open border – they caused this problem. ”
Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO): “We have to have a trial. The Constitution calls for it… This is our job, regardless of how you are going to vote… Once you break the seal here, there will be no impeachment trials ever again.”
